MOVA-CIT

A Digital Intervention Framework for Stroke Rehabilitation

MOVA-CIT is the digital intervention framework of the FisioAVC platform. Developed at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Brazil, it integrates evidence-based rehabilitation strategies with digital health technologies to support the remote delivery of upper limb rehabilitation after stroke.

The framework was designed to improve arm function and real-world use of the affected upper limb while expanding access to intensive rehabilitation through telerehabilitation.


Evidence-Based Foundation

MOVA-CIT combines two well-established neurorehabilitation approaches:

Modified Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (mCIMT)

An intensive rehabilitation approach that promotes the use of the affected upper limb through repetitive task-oriented practice, behavioral strategies, and controlled restraint of the less-affected limb.

Action Observation Therapy (AOT)

A therapeutic approach in which individuals observe goal-directed actions before performing the same tasks, facilitating motor learning through activation of the brain's action-observation network.


Innovation

By integrating these interventions into a structured digital framework, MOVA-CIT supports safe, supervised, and accessible home-based rehabilitation. The program was developed to overcome barriers related to geographical distance, limited access to specialized services, and the growing demand for evidence-based telerehabilitation.


Research

MOVA-CIT is continuously refined through clinical research conducted at UFSCar. Current investigations focus on digital implementation, usability, feasibility, clinical effectiveness, and strategies to improve access to stroke rehabilitation through telehealth.
